Twelve metres of warm white light hung from a single solar panel. Star and crystal-ball covers on copper wire, 100 LEDs, eight lighting modes, and a remote so you can change the mood without getting off the picnic blanket.

Tested numbers: 12 m of copper wire carrying 100 warm-white LEDs (5000 K). Solar, USB and remote versions; eight modes on the solar build. IP42 rated, 50,000-hour rated LEDs, and it connects in series with another set so a patio does not stop at one strand. 300 g packed.

Where it earns its space: along a caravan awning, around a tent entrance, over the picnic table, along a deck at dusk, or wrapped round the handrail on a boat. It charges in the sun during the day and lights up on its own after dark, so there is no cable to run and nothing to plug in.
